White Water Lilies in a Pond, signed and dated E. Jolin 1902, is a charming and intimate depiction of a quiet summer moment by the Swedish female artist Ellen Jolin (1854-1939). Possibly, the depiction is from Étang de Saint-Cucufa, within the forest of Malmaison. In the foreground a small, partly visible wooden jetty extends gently into the still water. Beside it, clusters of white water lilies float calmly on the surface of the pond, their delicate blossoms reflected in the quiet water. The restrained composition and soft handling of light convey a sense of tranquility and contemplative stillness.
