Encuentro by Mercedes Ayala is an oil painting most like painted at the Monasteries on the slopes of Popocatépetl. The Monasteries consists of fourteen monasteries built on or near the Popocatépetl volcano in central Mexico in the sixteenth century by members of the Franciscan, Dominican and Augustinian orders. They were a major factor in the Christianization of a large population over a vast territory and in a short period of time. These 14 monasteries cover over 150 miles (242 kilometers) of land southeast of Mexico City; 11 in the state of Morelos and three in Puebla state. It was impossible to photograph but behind the second monk is a third monk and you can barely see the candle. This is an oil on canvas and painted in her studio in Mexico D.F. This meadery in Kolomenskoye Park is known to many park visitors. It is located next to the front gate to the left of the entrance to the park on the territory of the Kazan Garden. Sorry for the reflections on the glass, but I didn't want to take this lovely frame apart. The close-ups are much better. This is a highly accomplished, superbly detailed watercolor of a the facade of a building in Rome, depicting Corinthian columns, a frieze and a free-standing tributary sculpture above. Image area itself is 10.5" x 6.25", framed size is 19.5" x 14". Matted and presented in a pretty antique wood frame that has some flaws from an apparently long history but is perfectly serviceable, as you can see.
