One of the photographers at Mauritius Publishing based in Berlin was Karl Heinrich Lämmel. Born on 30 July 1910 in Riesa, Saxony, he has been missing since April 1945. In the thirties, Karl Heinrich Lämmel produced several photographic reports of cities, including Munich and Cologne. Photographs that have yet to be seen and appreciated. Lämmel's pictures show a different view of Germany. His documentation is an unparalleled and intriguing insight into the working and everyday life of the time. He produced images over a 35 year career, and in recent years used archival techniques to produce his prints. For most of his career he worked as both a Commercial and Fine Art photographer, and during his last years concentrated on his personal imagery. Towards the end of his life journey, Ian was reviving with his partner two 19th century printing techniques in their studio, Platinum Palladium and Gum Bichromate ( one-of-a-kind pieces). This culminated in a large retrospective exhibition in Barcelona which was sponsored by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation. The Platinum and Palladium prints are particularly interesting as they printed them onto vellum paper therefore transparent and bonded pure gold or silver to the back of the prints ( every print is therefore a unique and timeless piece of art). They have created rare and personalized pieces with an artisanal technique. Ian Sanderson was one of only a handful of artists worldwide producing this type of work. Nowadays, Ian’s partner continues their work, she’s still creating Platinum Palladium prints but also silver gelatin photographs. Aeling often spoke of landscapes as records of time, and this painting exemplifies that belief: it is both serene and charged with memory, documenting a terrain shaped by fire, water, and cold. That sense of elemental transformation is deepened by the medium itself. This is the only encaustic painting found in his studio following his death—a rare departure from his familiar oil technique. The wax-based process, involving heat, layering, and an almost geological buildup of surface, mirrors the very forces depicted in the scene. It stands as a singular artifact in his oeuvre, a final and poignant testament to his fascination with how material, time, and natural forces converge. Aeling’s winters in Hawaii deepened his sensitivity to movement and weather. Surfing taught him to read the rhythm of the ocean, a knowledge reflected in Wave, Kauai (2018), where a breaking wave becomes a luminous wall of force.
