Raymond Edwin Brose was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Rudolph Albert and Minnie (Schultz) Brose. He attended Antioch College through 1942 and Escuela de Pintura Y Escultura and Politécnico Instituto, Mexico City, through 1949. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii in 1951. Brose went on to earn his master of arts degree from Stanford University in 1952 and a doctorate degree in education from Stanford University in 1961. Raymond Edwin Brose has been listed as a notable artist by Marquis Who's Who.
