Mid-century decorative vase by French ceramicist, Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). A gentle, creamy-white glaze encompasses the exterior of the vase topped at the lip by a grassy green with touches of brown. Covering the piece you will find a stunning, large thistle and its foliage. Both visually appealing and tactile, the piece would make an excellent addition to your home or workspace. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. One beautiful glazed ceramic platter with an engraved and hand-painted blue thistle flower bud.
We find the vocabulary of preference of the ceramist: a chalky white background, both bright and neutral to highlight the blue flower and foliage, the edge is also engraved with decorative motifs.
