Vintage French Ceramic Tray by Albert Thiry, 'circa 1970s'
About the Item
French ceramic decorative dish with fish motif (circa 1970s) by Albert Thiry. A rectangular-shaped ceramic dish has rounded edges with a chalk-white glaze surface. Within the dish's recess a fish is incised into the glaze and painted in Thiry's trademark blue and green colours. The tray's brown lip has a foliage pattern throughout. Stylish and of the era, it is quintessential Provençal. Signed on the bottom: 'Thiry'. In good overall condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided.
About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
