Antony Gormley Art

British, b. 1950
Antony Gormley was born and raised in Hampstead Garden Suburb, attending Ampleforth College, a Benedictine Boarding school in Yorkshire. Gormley went on to study Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Art at Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1968-1971. From 1974, Gormley attended Saint Martin’s School of Art and Goldsmiths in London, going on to complete his studies with a postgraduate course in sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, where he graduated from in 1979. Gormley’s first solo exhibition took place at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1981. The vast majority of Gormley’s work takes the human body as subject, recasting it from conceptions of the body as appearance-based object to a world of subjective experience in which we inhabit. The 2006 Sydney Biennale featured an installation of 180,000 small clay figurines, one of Gormley’s best known and acclaimed works entitled Asian Field. In 2006, the burning of Gormley’s 25-metre high The Waste Man formed the zenith of the Margate Exodus. In 2007, Gormley’s 31 life size, anatomically exact casts of his body were installed on top of prominent buildings along South Bank in London and Madison Square in New York. In 2009, Gormley invited members of the public to spend one hour on the vacant plinth in Trafalgar Square in London as Part of a living art exhibition. In 2012, Gormley begun experimenting with digital cubism, and in 2015, five life sized sculptures were placed near the centre and at four compass points of the UK in a commission to celebrate the Landmark Trust’s 50th anniversary; Gormley named this collection Land. Gormley has received international recognition for his work, winning the Turner Prize in 1994, appointed a Royal Academician in 2003, made a trustee of the British Museum in 2007 and won the Laurance Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for his set design for Babel at Sadler’s Wells. Gormley won the Obayashi Prize in 2012 and was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for his services to the arts. Collectors of his work and Public Art locations include the Tate Gallery; Winchester Cathedral; Victoria Square, Birmingham; Mo i Rana, Noway; Crosby Beach; Greenwhich; Mansfield College; the British Library; Manchester Art Gallery; Lake Ballard, Australia; the Archaeological Park of Scolacium, Calabria; Hayward Gallery, London; DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park; Christchurch, New Zealand and the Anchorage Museum, Alaska.

Located in NEW YORK, NY

John Baldessari Love and Work 1991: Baldessari’s Love & Work 1991, photogravure and color aquatint, features clasped hands clutching surrealistically amidst a black background. Classic, timeless Baldessari imagery that is sure to work well in any setting. Medium: Color photogravure and aquatint on wove paper. 1991. Dimensions: 26 x 11.5 inches. Well-preserved and in very good overall condition. Framed in acrylic plexiglass. One of the 15 numbered artist's proofs, aside from the general edition of 60. Signed, inscribed "A.P." and numbered 12/15 in pencil, lower margin. Published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York. Collections: MoMa New York John Baldessari: It is hard to characterize John Baldessari's varied practice—which includes photomontage, artist’s books, prints, paintings, film, performance, and installation—except through his approach of good-humored irreverence. Baldessari is commonly associated with Conceptual or Minimalist art, though he has called this characterization “a little bit boring.” His two-dimensional works often incorporate found images, composed in layers or presented as distinct pieces with an element of surprise, like a brightly colored geometric shape in the place of a face or a starkly printed sardonic caption. Baldessari has demonstrated a lasting interest in language and semantics, articulating these concerns through the use of puns or the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated images and words, as in his 1978 work Blasted Allegories. His self-referencing photomontages and use of text have been sources of inspiration for countless artists, including Cindy Sherman, David Salle, and Barbara Kruger. Baldessari identifies his own artistic lineage, saying, "I would prefer to go to the source with Duchamp rather than credit Warhol as an influence." Related Categories: Surrealist. Ed Ruscha. Joan Miró “L’Oiseau du Forgeron” 1963 Signed Etching and Aquatint with Debossing

By Joan Miró

Located in Miami, FL

JOAN MIRÓ (1893–1983) – “L’OISEAU DU FORGERON” Etching and Aquatint in Colors with Debossing on Arches Paper ⚜ Hand Signed and Numbered ⚜ Custom Conservation Frame A POETIC DIALOGUE BETWEEN INDUSTRIAL MATTER AND THE LIFE OF THE BIRD “L’Oiseau du Forgeron”, or “The Blacksmith’s Bird,” is a 1963 etching and aquatint with debossing by Joan Miró, hand signed in pencil lower right and numbered 48 from the limited edition of 75. The work belongs to Miró’s celebrated Forgeron series, in which the artist used aggressive plate biting and physical debossing of the paper to summon the world of the blacksmith’s forge directly onto the printed sheet. Printed in colors on heavy Arches wove paper with the watermark present, the impression was published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, the central printmaking publisher of Miró’s mature career, and is documented in Jacques Dupin’s Miró Engraver, Vol. II: 1961–1973 (Daniel Lelong Éditeur, Paris, 1989) as plate 363. The composition is built around a bold visual pairing. At its center sits a heavy gray geometric form, rendered through the combined effect of etching, aquatint, and debossing, the latter pressing the contours of the deeply etched plate physically into the paper to create a tactile, sculptural relief that mimics forged industrial iron. The form is perforated with a constellation of small circles that read as rivet holes and is edged with the irregular notches of a blacksmith’s tool...
