Assouline Publishing Furniture

Assouline Publishing has made the coffee-table book cool again. The revolutionary company is best known for sumptuously illustrated books on fashion, art, travel and photography. Its exquisite hardcover volumes are beautiful to look at and are of impeccable editorial quality.

Assouline Publishing was established in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline. The family company quickly outgrew its modest initial office, which was located in the basement of what was then the couple’s apartment, and the pair eventually opened a proper office on rue Danielle Casanova in the French capital city. Assouline’s initial offerings focused on designers, artists and fashion houses, with books about Azzedine Alaïa, Dior and Chanel captivating readers in the publisher’s early days. These books have sold millions of copies all over the world.

Owing to the decline of print media, luxury companies found in Assouline a venue to help showcase their products and adequately position their branding in front of consumers. From its earliest days, Assouline has published opulent hardcovers that broke the mold, from illustrated tomes celebrating fashion legends and high-society doyens to hand-bound limited-edition art monographs with Italian linen covers.

Highly anticipated Assouline titles, such as Yves Saint Laurent: The Impossible Collection, Chinese Art: The Impossible Collection and Art Deco Style, are published with consistency every year.

While books remain at the forefront of Assouline, the publishing house has also expanded into producing alluring decorative objects and furnishings for the home.

Today, Alex Assouline, the son of Prosper and Martine, heads Assouline Publishing. Under his guidance, the brand developed a lucrative new branch that is focused on curating private libraries for homes, offices, hotels and other commercial properties.

Living with Chamberlain, Art in Residence (Special Edition)

By Assouline Publishing

Located in NEW YORK, NY

Discover a masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship with this special edition of Living with Chamberlain—a must-have for discerning collectors. Limited to just 200 copies, each edition is truly an artwork in its own right, featuring a one-of-a-kind sculptural element crafted with repurposed metals sourced directly from Chamberlain's studio, along with a rare 1990 limited-edition print by the artist. Presented in a luxurious clamshell case, this edition is a rare and exceptional tribute to Chamberlain’s enduring legacy. More than a book, it is a collectible object—bold, tactile, and deeply connected to the spirit of the artist himself. Featuring a foreword by Rick Owens, and interviews and conversations with family, friends, gallerists, and collectors, this intimate and personal volume uncovers how Chamberlain’s art has impacted the lives of so many, including personalities as diverse as Chamberlain’s wide-ranging artistic expressions. Among the many stories contained, collectors Bruce and Barbara Berger recount how they traded a refrigerator for their Chamberlain sculpture in 1972; Yvonne Force Villareal shares how she met her husband, artist Leo Villareal, at an exhibition of Chamberlain couches; fashion designer Matthew Williams and artist Solange Knowles speak about their separate experiences with Chamberlain’s art and his creative influence on their own work; and fashion designer Vera Wang shares how a chance encounter at MoMA led to an unusual late-life friendship with the artist. Contributors include: Amy Astley; Joa Baldinger and Heiner Friedrich; Bruce and Barbara Berger; Darius and Jill Bikoff; Michael Black; David, Lauren and Sean Carpenter; Susan Davidson; Karen, Steven and Zoë Feldman; Urs Fischer; Larry Gagosian; Bob Gersh; Andrea Glimcher; Marc Glimcher; Eric Goodman; Jeff and Judy Greenstein; Karsten Greve; Wilhelm and Jutta Grusdat; Lana Jokel; Rainer Judd; Colin King; Solange Knowles; Bernard and Joanne Kruger; Nancy Magoon; Helen Marden...

Now, straight from the pages of this well-loved periodical, The Well-Lived Life presents a lavish chronicle of a country and a culture coming into its own, documenting America's continuing education in matters of house, home and garden over the course of the 20th century. Located in Hudson, NY

These aluminum handrails which once graced the center of the grand staircase of the S S United States exemplifies the sophisticated sleek aesthetic of Mid-Century American design. When launched in July 1952 the S S United States was the culmination of years planning and design. On the heels of WW II, the U S Government saw the need to have modern ships that could be easily converted to troop transport ships in wartime constructed with safety and speed as the top priorities. They worked in partnership with the United States Line and underwrote a great deal of the liner's finished cost of 72 million as well as the future operating and maintenance cost of this proud symbol of her country and her age. The designer of the ship William Francis Gibbs had to incorporate the requirements of the government into his designs for the great liner. From her knife-edge bow across the superstructure and a pair of massive blue white and red raked funnels to the perfect arc of her stern, she sat proudly in the water and conveyed a sense of movement and speed even when still. His design incorporated a "secret" hull, numerous bulkheads which limited the grand open spaces of most liners of the time, no flammable material used in construction and fitting out other than the Steinway grand piano...

Gold—pure, indestructible, dazzling: Since the dawn of time, this precious metal has generated countless fantasies and beliefs. Whether it leads powerful rulers to the afterlife, casts a delicate glow on the Buddhist pagodas of Southeast Asia, illuminates the halos of saints, adds brilliance to the crowns of kings and popes, gleams on haute couture runways or glitters on a rapper’s grill, gold is an eternal symbol of wealth and glory, the prized element’s highly malleable nature lending itself to infinite metamorphoses. What accounts for such a lasting and universal fascination? Thanks to its irresistible luminosity and remarkable resilience, gold is the ideal medium to symbolize both visible and invisible forces. Artists from Gustav Klimt to Andy Warhol and Yves Klein have exalted its metaphysical and fantastic nature. Ancient Egyptians regarded gold...

Considered by many as the country’s most dynamic, fastest growing and sexiest city, Miami is more popular than ever before. Yet, it is a city that doesn’t merely change but evolves, never rewriting the past, just adding to its illustrious heritage. And this is the real beauty of Miami. The chic Surf Club and the vibrant Faena Hotel did not replace the emblematic Raleigh of the 1940s nor the Ritz Carlton of the 50s, rather they complement them. Classics like Joe’s Stone Crab...

Located in Beverly Hills, CA

Guy Bourdin ranks high in the pantheon of the most important photographers of the second half of the twentieth century. Throughout his career, and notably as a star photographer through three decades for Vogue Paris, he dramatically extended the possibilities of what a fashion photograph could be, making images that are distinctive, intense, haunting, and unforgettable. A painter all his life and an ever-curious self-taught photographer, Guy Bourdin pursued his unique artistic vision with single-mindedness and absolute integrity. An instinctive Surrealist, creator of enigmatic narratives, and a maverick art director, he conceived timeless images that have remained a powerful influence and inspiration for successive generations. Born in Paris, Guy Bourdin began exhibiting drawings and painting in his early twenties. After becoming a protégé of the Surrealist artist Man Ray, Bourdin showed his first photography exhibition in 1952, with an introduction by his mentor in the catalog. Incredibly, this was just five years before he would exhibit his work at the International Photography Biennale in Venice.
