Evocative original oil on canvas painting by the Welsh artist, John Bowen. Signed lower left. Condition is very good. Circa 1970. The artist uses the light to capture the beauty of the young girl looking directly at us with her cat resting in her lap. The painting is housed in a dark wood frame with narrow liner of the same time period of the artwork. Overall framed measurement is 41 by 29 inches. Provenance: A Sarasota, Florida estate. John Bowen (1914–2006) Carmarthenshire Museums Service Collection Painter, born in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. After attending Llanelli and Swansea Schools of Art he taught at Llanelli School of Art, 1939–60, also at the Boys’ Grammar School there apart from wartime service in the Royal Air Force. He was an artist member of SWG and also showed WAC and at the Royal National Eisteddfod. In 1968 he had a retrospective at Parc Howard Mansion, Llanelli. Painter of landscapes in Britain and abroad and still life, in oil and watercolour whose work is in many public collections, including WAC and Newport Art Gallery and Museum. Dorit Levi, Israeli (Born 1952). 'Golden Sounds' Oil on canvas (possible acrylic on canvas or mixed media) Hand signed bottom right and on verso. Measures 20"H x 24"W, framed 33" H x 37" W. Dorit Levi was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1952, her Yemenite upbringing and culture playing an important role in her art. Her talent enabled her to study at the prestigious Wizo France Art School in her native city, where she had the great fortune to learn from one of Israel's greatest artists, Edwin Salomon. The artist's personal experiences in Uganda, Africa where she lived for several years, are reflected in many of her paintings. The vast savannas translate into the warm colors of backdrops, and the flow and movement of her vibrant figures are inspired by Uganda's colorful markets and the people in embroidered garb. Dorit's works are remarkable in her use of gold leaf and the enormous attention to detail and complex composition.
