Bernard Rancillac Furniture
French, b. 1931
Benard Rancillac was at a very early stage engaged with a critical re-appropriation of pop art’s figurative language. Abandoning informal and abstract painting in 1962, he became a pioneer of French figuration narrative, working from photographic images in magazines, advertisements, popular imagery and comic strips and reinterpreting them to highlight their political implications.

The Elephant armchair, conceived by the French artist Bernard Rancillac, embodies a captivating fusion of contemporary art and functional design. Inspired by the pop-art aesthetic of the 1960s, its bold lines and elegant silhouette transcend the conventional boundaries between art and furniture.
Crafted from yellow-tinted fiberglass resin, it elegantly rests on a black lacquered wrought iron base. Signed by Rancillac and numbered 51/100 on the back in a cartouche, this piece exhibits expert craftsmanship and attention to detail.
