Betsy Podlach Art
American, b. 1964
Betsy Podlach was born in New York in 1964. She studied painting while earning her BA at Harvard University with William Reiman and Alfred Decredico, as well as literature and fiction writing with Carlos Fuentes and the playwright William Alfred. She then attended the New York Studio School in New York, NY. At the Studio School, she studied with members of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism who had studied with Hons Hoffman, Nicolas Carone, Mercedes Matter, and Ofra Shemish.
Podlach paints landscapes, still-lifes, and figures. Her primary focus is on figurative images, nudes, couples, and portraits of women and sometimes men, with and without an imagined animal or several animals. These are created through a process of trying to create a person who didn’t exist before, who comes into existence for the first time as the painting develops in a dialogue with the emerging subjects. These women, men, animals, and imaginary settings are both intense in their imagined past and future and in their presence depicted as a moment in time, a moment in which time is stopped - vulnerable, sexual, strong, and engaged in the fullness of life, love, pain, and joy.
Podlach has exhibited extensively in both the US and Europe. Her work is in both public and private collections all over the world, including that of Pfizer Inc, and NYU. She seeks to combine the elements of the great Venetian painter, Titan, and the expressionism of Jackson Pollock into a contemporary aesthetic of physicality, sexuality, intimacy, and mystery. She has studied, lived, and painted independently in Italy, Paris, and Provence thanks to grants, scholarships, and the generosity of Donatella Borghese and Nicolas Carone. She resided in New York City for many years and now lives and works on Eastern Long Island, near Southampton New York.(Biography provided by American Art Gallery)

effrey Long, the elder son of a commercial graphic artist at Time & Life, was born in New York City in 1948.
In 1970 Long received a BFA in Illustration and Art Education from Rhode Island School of Design and had decided to be a painter. His paintings from this period were photo realistic portraits and figures set in landscapes. On graduation, he married and began teaching art in a Rhode Island public school system.
From 1971 through 1973 he was a resident artist at the Rockefeller-funded Pulpit Rock Community in Woodstock, Connecticut. Works from this intensive period were representational, highly dynamic, and borrowed from the vocabulary of cartoons.
In early 1974 Long moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he obtained a full scholarship at California College of Arts & Crafts (now California College of Arts).
There he received an MFA in painting in 1976. He established various studios in Oakland and Emeryville, while also working as a Curatorial Assistant at The Oakland Museum. Philippe Marie René Picard was born in the small village of Neuvy-le-Roi in France. His parents were Albert Picard and Marie Lehoux; he had a total of six siblings. After studying at the Lycée Descartes in Tours, he entered the studio of the artist François Sicard. He was then accepted to the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Tours from 1932 to 1934, where he was a pupil of Maurice Mathurin. In 1935, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris, then in 1936-1938 the studio of Fernand Sabatté, and finally Charles-François-Prosper Guérin studio.
Phillippe Marie exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants 1945, where the city of Paris bought the first painting. He then exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants until 1989. In 1946 when this painting was created, he exhibited for the first time in Stockholm. At the end of the same year, he was noticed by Youki Desnos and exhibit at the Fontan gallery in Paris. In 1947 and 1948, he participated in a group exhibition at the Marquié Gallery in New York under the title: School of Paris - Paintings with Eugène Boudin , Jean-Baptiste Corot , Braque , Andre Lhote , Élisée Maclet , Camille Pissarro and Henri Rousseau.
He travelled to Sweden from October to November 1949. It will be his only trip abroad. Subsequently, he made several important exhibitions in Sweden. He continues to exhibit in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Venezuela, Lebanon, Spain...
