Beautiful wooden box decorated with two pheasants surrounded by foliage, rocks and flowers. Sold with an embroidered silk pillow.
Work from Brienz, Switzerland 19th century, also called, work of the Black Forest (erroneously as explained by Gazette Drouot experts).
Still bears the sticker of the boutique it was sold from "Charnaux, Maison des Trois Rois, Genève".
The Trois-Rois house has housed several photography workshops. Before 1860, Auguste Garcin set up shop there but sold his business to Henri-Antoine Boissonnas around 1866-1867, who moved to the Quai de la Poste in the 1870s. Charnaux was a dealer of prints, art objects and tourist objects, then creator, around 1870-1880, of a photographic workshop at the Place Bel-Air in the Three Kings house...
