Lotan X - Abstract black and white contemporary ink painting
By Christopher Rico
Located in East Quogue, NY
Black and white contemporary abstract ink painting by Christopher Rico - ink on Yupo paper. Offered unframed. For this black and white series of paintings, Rico uses oversized calligraphy brushes on Yupo paper. He lays out long sheets on the floor and masks off dimensions for what would become separate sheets. Many of the eventual works were painted together as one in order to preserve single and repetitive strokes that materialized as part of his daily meditations. This physical meditation resulted in artifacts of gesture allowing subconscious imagery to emerge freely as though they were born from the depths--where a physical entity’s relationship to gravity and environment is different than for lifeforms on the surface. Abstract art, abstract painting, abstraction, gestural abstraction, gestural painting, black and white, black and white painting, work on paper, yupo paper, black ink, painting, monochrome, monochromatic art...

By Jan Pieter Fokkens
Located in Chicago, IL
Entitled "Study for Messier 17," this painting by Chicago-artist Jan Pieter Fokkens offers a representation of the spectacular star-forming region Messier 17, also known as the Omega Nebula or Swan Nebula. A vast region of gas, dust and hot young stars, Messier 17 lies in the heart of the Milky Way, tucked within the constellation of Sagittarius (the Archer). Inspired by telescope images of deep space, contemporary computer compression algorithms and early non-representational art...

Citation - tall, grey, black, white, figurative, abstract, brushed ink on paper
By Andrew Lui
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Brushed ink scaffolding in grey and black leads the eye up the picture plane in this 55 inch tall painting on paper. The intense movement suggestive of rearing horses in this painterly work is in keeping with Lui's them of pilgrimage in which he explores the idea of "self-inflicted happiness" as a deliberate response to the melancholy and complexity of life. This painting is floated and framed. Born in Guangzhou, China, Lui (1951-2021) participated in the Chinese Cultural Revolution as a member of the Red Guard 1968-70 and then escaped to Hong Kong by swimming. Making his way to Toronto he studied at the Ontario College of Art and became a citizen in the late 1970s. He continued studies in the UK, and Italy where he was drawn to the dynamic Uccello's Battle of San Romano...

Anthony Benjamin, 'Untitled', watercolour and acrylic on paper, image size 20 x 26cm, framed size, 33 cm x 40 cm, signed and dated 2000 Provenance: From the Artist Estate A Gallery Certificate accompanies the painting Anthony Benjamin was a 20th Century abstract precisionist artist. Born in London in 1931 he was active throughout the second half of the 20th century. Experimental, hugely talented and obsessive, Benjamin moved fluidly between mediums and refused to be tied to any practise. He trained with the best, amongst others with Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris and was recognised by the Royal Society of the Arts, his pier group and leading Galleries and Institutions who displayed and collected his work. Anthony Benjamin was also daring. At at time when the art-world was fixated with the St Ives Group of artists, Benjamin, who was part of this group, chose to leave. Although adept at making St Ives abstractionism it did not sit naturally with him. He did not see value in its art. Instead he sought to replicate abstraction in nature and was inspired by others who had also mastered this craft such as the Composer Brian Eno, with whom he later collaborated with and the Gnawa musicians of Morocco. A trained engineering draughtsman, Benjamin's formally perfect artworks are always infused with an air of technical experimentation and a poetic response to the natural world. The artist was inspired by pattern and obsessed with process. He was a sculptor, printmaker, painter, draughtsman and used collage, canvas, brass, perspex, steel, paper and anything that inspired him. Throughout his career, Benjamin made monumental paintings. In the studio he thought, pondered and considered every move. It was during these periods of contemplation that he would make warm up paintings that were beautifully loose, almost the antithesis in process to his large works. However it was in these smaller watercolour paintings...
