A stylish Art Deco pottery hors d’oeuvres floral painted dish set on an oak tray by Clarice Cliff (English, 1899-1972) and dating from the 1930’s. The dish set comprises of a larger rectangular shaped dish with raised sides with four matching smaller square dishes fitting neatly into an oak twin handled tray. The cream colored ceramic dishes are decorated with gilded borders around the rims and with a central floral pattern to the dish which has been hand painted in colors and known and marked as pattern 798. This is a cup & saucer duo in the conical shape with the Banded pattern all hand painted by the renowned Art Deco designer Clarice Cliff. This piece dates to the late Bizarre period, Circa 1930. This pattern has the distinctive "Clarice" look of the early Bizarre pieces with the conical shape handle characteristic of the Deco period. The cup has the Bizarre black printed stamp on the base together with the printed "REGISTATION APPLIED FOR" and 5823 in gold. The saucer has the same Biizarre mark, the number in gold and an impressed date stamp with a diamond , the date being 6/30 representing June 1930.
