He says he loves working outdoors, where all of his senses are engaged. "It is a very creative environment, as you have to work quickly as nature changes," Doug explains. "I ignore what I don't want so the confusion of shapes and colors are reduced to the essentials. The key is to modify or even eliminate objects, as it's rare you will ever find ready-made compositions."

"For years, barns were wood," explains artist Doug Cosbie. "Then, about 50 years ago, farmers started using tin-coated panels for barns and sheds. Tin panels were used to wrap barn frames and create long-lasting protection from the outside elements, and it seemed that that was the end of wood barns. Now, like the old wood construction, barn tin is being replaced by modern metals and synthetics. Once again, another iconic symbol of the rural farming way of life is disappearing as the old tin ends up in landfills."
