By 1826 the various facets of the business included 'buying and selling, exchanging and valuing China, cabinets, screens, bronzes etc' Baldock's business seems to have largely involved trading in foreign items and from 1832-1837 he was the purveyor of earthenware and glass to William IV and later purveyor of china to Queen Victoria from 1838 until his death. Questions About Edward Holmes Baldock Tables

  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 4, 2024
Yes, Holmes & Edwards inlaid silverware and other objects are made with real silver. While the company manufactured many types of tableware, including pieces made of solid silver and silver-plated objects, the American manufacturer's inlaid silverware owed to a unique inlay manufacturing process pioneered by Holmes & Edwards. The process, which was patented by New York inventor William A. Warner and acquired by the firm, involved inserting extra sterling silver into key areas of utensils to reduce wear and tear.
