Elio Ferrara Art

Italian, b. 1945

Elio Ferrara was born in Naples, Italy, on October 19, 1945. He studied at the Artistic Lyceum and also the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. Both his father and his grandfather were painters, so from a very young age, he was exposed to the artistic and cultural life of his city. He also accompanied his father on several of his study trips throughout Europe. In 1962, he became actively involved in the painting of stage scenery. He worked for the Centro Studio Teatrali, E. Zacconi, which was under the directorship of A. Adolgiso, and later for the Centro Teatro Dialogo in Portici, which was led by L. Beffi. In January of 1971, along with Oscar Pelosi, Enzo Cerino and Salvatore Vitagliano, he formed the Grupo Enne 4. During this period, he directed an art gallery in Naples known as La Tavolozza (The Palette). Ferrara also worked on restoring frescoes and sculptures in public buildings and churches. Since 1964, he has had more than 40 one-man shows.
