By Jules Pierre van Biesbroeck
Located in Paris, FR
Family scene. Oil sketch on cardboard. This work will be recorded in the catalogue raisonné of the work of the artist currently in preparation. Jules Van Biesbroeck was the son of Jules Evariste van Biesbroeck, a painter of Ghent, but was born in Italy, in Portici, near Naples, while his parents were staying there. (In the 19th century many artists made educational trips to Italy). It was a long visit: the child was two years old by the time the family returned to Ghent.[1] After a short period of practice with his father, van Biesbroeck was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. In 1888, when he was only 15 years old, he made his debut at the "Salon des Champs-Elysées" in Paris with his monumental work "The Launch of the Argo" (French: Le lancement...

"Just Wait Till I Grow Up"
By Eugene Iverd
Located in Detroit, MI
"Just Wait Til I Grow Up" is an original oil on canvas painting by Eugene Iverd, the named adopted by the artist and illustrator George Ericson when he began to do commercial work. Eugene Iverd had a great fondness for illustrating and painting children and capturing their innocence, frequently using his own children and the children of Erie, PA where he taught as the models for his work. This innocence can be seen in the many works he did for the covers of magazines like the Saturday Evening Post, The American Magazine, and others and in "Just Wait Til I Grow Up" which was used for the April 1932 cover of The American Magazine. Iverd was born in 1893 in Minnesota, the child of Swedish immigrants and received degrees from the St. Paul School of Fine Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After serving in the military where he did illustrations for their own magazines he took a teaching position at Academy High School in Erie, Pennsylvania, a place that has become strongly associated with his work. He went full-time with his commercial work, designing calendars, magazine covers, and paintings for magazines...
