Cotswold School oak & leather stool designed by Gordon Russell (1892-1980) for Russell & Sons, Broadway. Circa 1924. Gordon Russell and his father set up Russell and Sons in 1922. Gordon Russell designed this stool around 1924, making it a rare early example. It shows the influence of the Cotswold school of makers, who were in turn influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement. The stool has peg construction and wagon chamfering oak supports, which have a slight tapering design, with a leather interlaced top. The stool is in very good to excellent original untouched condition, and the oak has a wonderful rich colour. The leather is all sound, showing light signs of use as expected.
