We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare Hampton & Son’s Pall Mall Victorian, circa 1870 twin pedestal partner writing desk A very good looking well-made mahogany desk with a leather top made by the highly coveted Hampton & Son’s The top left and right drawers are fully stamped Hampton & Son’s Pall Mall, all other drawers have Hobbs & Co locks, the handles are all period correct and original The top has multiple patina marks and colour variations, the timber on the desk is in a similar order, we have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it Dimensions Height 71.5 cm Width 137 cm Depth 80 cm Legroom Height 56 cm Width 60 cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point In 1830 William Hampton opened a shop for the sale of general household furniture in Cranbourn Street. He was subsequently joined by his two sons George and William Powell (the sons of George Hampton; Harold, Fred and Clarence also later entered the business). In 1869 the business expanded with new premises on the corner site comprising 8 Pall Mall East and 1-3 Dorset Place (now Whitcomb Street). Throughout its history the firm suffered a number of serious fires, the first of which occurred in 1890. As the firm continued to expand it took over control of a number of other firms, beginning with James Coulson and Co of Lisburn, Northern Ireland in 1898, and in the early 1950's Goodall, Lamb and Highway of King Street, Manchester and Robson and Sons...

A gorgeous Edwardian inlaid side or writing table, finely carved and of fabulous quality with richly patinated timbers comprising of mahogany and fruitwood. The moulded cross banded, quarter veneered top of rectangular form with a lovely inlaid oval pattern to the central reserve, raised over pull out slide section revealing a writing skiver surface fitted with gorgeous green embossed tooled leather. Raised over moulded frieze with single centred cockbeaded, line inlaid drawer with turned pulls, brass escutcheon and key. Supported on elegantly, tapering square leg, terminating on spade foot, labelled 'Hampton & Sons LTD. Pall Mall East, London.’ Hampton & Sons Hampton & Sons were one of the most prestigious British cabinet makers of the 19th and 20th Century, creating very fine and highly sought after antique furniture renowned for it's fine quality craftsmanship. Reputedly established in 1830, Hampton & Sons began by selling general household and fine furniture in Cranbourn Street, near Covent Garden, London, with their works at 43 Belvedere Road in southeast London. William Hampton’s two sons, George and William, joined the firm in 1869 and they moved to a larger premises at 8 Pall Mall. By 1871 they had expanded to two locations: 1, 2 & 3 Dorset Place, Charing Cross and 8 Pall Mall East. Advertising as 'cabinet makers, upholsterers, bed & mattress makers...

A very rare bedroom suite made by one of the great Victorian furniture makers Hampton & Son’s of Pall Mall London. The suite is circa 1890, made from the finest Satinwood available and with silver leaf painted detailing, each piece is Stamped with the button Label of Hampton's Pall Mall East London apart from the chair which has the Hampton plaque on the underside The dimensions of each piece are below, the main wardrobe is very large, the wardrobe with drawers is actually very small and a tallboy size, the dressing table comes with a matching chair and stool We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, the glass in the Cherval mirror is lightly perished and aged as it’s the original plate, otherwise for me its in time warp condition Hampton and Sons were cabinet makers of Antique Furniture and were first established in ca. 1830 by William Hampton. Hampton and Sons furnished some impressive properties and boats from the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, the Theatre Royal of Drury Lane, the Duke of York Theatre, the Dorchester and the Mayfair Hotels and the palaces of two Indian princes, the Nizam of Hyderabad & the Maharajah of Kashmir. Hampton and Sons had a few disasters throughout its history, it suffered a major fire in 1890 but they re-established and went to expand their business further.
