An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection. These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form. The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim. Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim. The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength. By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions. Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver candle snuffer / pen tray; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver candle snuffer tray has a navette shaped form. The surface of this antique silver snuffer/pen tray is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a centaur regardant holding and arrow on a bended bow, above the bright cut engraved initials 'WIL'. The outer circumference of the surface is encompassed with an undulating wriggle work decorated border. The raised rounded sides of the tray are embellished with pierced decorated urn designs conjoined by suspended bright cut engraved festoon ornamentation further accented with undulating pin struck decoration. The tray is further embellished with an applied bead decorated border to the rim. Either end of the tray incorporates an impressive pierced and applied scrolling leaf decorated handle accented with a pendant drop design to the inner surface. This exceptional tray was crafted by the London silversmith William Plummer who is known for his work with pierced decoration. The centaur in this stance is also a depiction of Sagittarius (otherwise known as Arcitenens), one of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. Condition This antique silver candle snuffer...
