Lucien Smith Art

American, b. 1989

Lucien Smith, referred to as an art world Wunderkind by the New York Times in 2013, received a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art in 2011. Smith, who is based in New York, has widely exhibited in group and solo shows in the United States and abroad, including Skarstedt Gallery, Salon 94, OHWOW Gallery, Marianne Boesky Gallery, Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans and the American Academy in Rome. A Simple Twist of Fate is one of Smith’s acclaimed Rain paintings, created during the year Smith spent living and working in Hudson, New York. In this series of paintings, he applies paint to an unprimed canvas using a fire extinguisher, resulting in an atmospheric mist of yellow and blue paint droplets that echoes the pattern of rainfall and brings to mind the Impressionist artists' fascination with the interaction of rain and light. According to Smith, “The Rain paintings in his head serve as backdrops for situations between people and/or objects, very much like backdrops in a play. They become activated when something is placed in front of them; only then do their scale and size come into effect.”

He produced readymade sculptures that the artist has secured and appropriated from the annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot in Kentucky. Consisting of propane tanks, oil drums, automobile parts, and even a full-length truck, the metal objects have all been fired on by thousands of rounds of ammunition from handguns, assault rifles, fully automatic rifles, to a powerful Gatling Gun...

Extra-Large Dutch Contemporary Abstract Portrait By Hans Bouman

Located in Frederiksberg C, DK

An exquisite contemporary painting by Dutch artist, Hans Bouman. In this painting Bouman creates a captivating interplay of colors and forms that gives rise to an enigmatic abstract face that invites interpretation and contemplation. This captivating large-scale abstract painting is a harmonious blend of warm white, earthy tones, invigorating orange, and calming blue hues. Hans Bouman, born in the Netherlands in 1951, embarked on his artistic journey at the Amsterdam Graphic School and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts. During the early 1980s, Paris became his haven of inspiration, where his debut in galleries marked the onset of an international presence that continues to flourish. Bouman's artistic evolution is characterized by cycles of creativity, but it is his larger-than-life hieratic heads that he is renown for. These remarkable pieces pay homage to influences as diverse as the Moai sculptures of Easter Island, the intricate masks of Africa...

Waterline Fine Art, Austin, TX is pleased to present the following work: Oil, pastel, and paper collage on canvas. Signed and dated verso. 52.75 x 47.75 in. 54 x 49 in. (framed) Gilded floater frame. Provenance Compass Rose, Chicago Born Sylvan Irwin Goldberg in 1924 and raised in the Bronx, Michael Goldberg was an important figure in American Abstract Expressionism, who began taking art classes at the Art Students League in 1938. A gifted student, Goldberg finished high school at the age of 14 and enrolled in City College. He soon found New York’s jazz scene to be a more compelling environment, and he began skipping classes in favor of the Harlem jazz clubs near campus. Goldberg’s love of jazz would become a lifelong passion and a key component to his approach to composition in his paintings. From 1940 to 1942, like many of the leading artists of the New York School, Goldberg studied with Hans Hofmann. In 1943, he put his pursuit of painting on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Serving in North Africa, Burma, and India, Goldberg received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being discharged in 1946. After his service, he traveled and worked in Venezuela before returning to the United States, settling back in New York and resuming studies with Hofmann and at the Art Students League. Living downtown and frequenting the Cedar Bar, Goldberg befriended many of the artists of the New York School. In 1951, his work was included in the groundbreaking Ninth Street Show, co-organized by Leo Castelli, Conrad Marca-Relli, and the Eighth Street Club, and featuring the work of - among others - Hofmann, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. In 1953, the Tibor de Nagy...
