M. Clark Art

American
M. Clark creates dynamic conversations between constancy and chaos by sculpting metallic foil on varied surfaces. Her pieces reflect light in diffuse patterns- producing striking luminosity that shifts with the viewer’s vantage point. This provides an infinitely evolving viewing experience which gives her work the distinct style she is known for. Being dyslexic, the multidimensional shapes and arcs of letters are more powerful than stringed characters forming words. She sees a linear structure broken by entropy and movement. This relationship between form, depth, and space emerge in the non-representational nature of her work. Clark’s creative process includes constant experimentation with materials. Each piece is created at her New York City studio over many months using a specialized technique that Clark developed. Her award-winning works are owned by collectors around the world and have been featured in international publications and media, and exhibited in The Smithsonian.

Artist Comments
A grid-like pattern forms a golden wall, exemplifying artist M. Clark's expressive medium. The technique used to create this is one where gold foil is sculpted using an innovative process M. developed. "This work has a continuously shifting luminosity that is dependent on the viewer’s vantage point," says M. "This provides an infinitely evolving viewing experience. The edges are finished in gold foil creating a halo effect around the artwork as light reflects off the sides of the piece."

About the Artist
M. Clark manipulates metallic foil in order to create rich surfaces that are highly reactive to shifts in light. She strives to continually push the bounds of her gold foil medium, including working directly with a manufacturer to develop foil in specific sizes and colors that were not previously available...

About the Artist
M. Clark sculpts metallic foil with heat and pressure to create rich surfaces that are highly reactive to shifts in light. She strives to continually push the bounds of her gold foil medium, including working directly with a manufacturer to develop foil in specific sizes and colors that were not previously available. As a person with dyslexia, her artwork has roots in the way she processes symbols. "The multidimensional shape and arc of letters are more powerful than stringed characters forming words," she explains. M. lives in New York and works in a studio on the 35th floor with big windows overlooking the East River. She describes it as an inspiring and calming space, and is fastidious about keeping the place organized. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including a large scale installation in the Smithsonian, and is collected internationally.

Edwardian Beach Scene, British 20th century oil on canvas
Located in Hillsborough, NC
Richly-colored and vibrant Edwardian Beach Scene, British oil painting on canvas in impressionist style, presented in contemporary gold frame. The oil paint is raised and textured, lifting the beach sands, sea, sky and dresses from the canvas. Gathering in Edwardian period costuming looks out over the sands to the sea and clouds, with distant sailboats and children playing in the waves. This is a delightful contemporary painting, unsigned, but original oil dating to the 20th century. Framers tags verso from Oxford and Glasgow. In very good condition, with a few minor chips on the gold frame, but otherwise the painting is bright and beautiful. Provenance to gallery in the United Kingdom, imported by Saltire Gallerie...
