"To, Livorno" 2002
Oil paint on canvas, stretcher bars

“To, Livorno” is a richly textured landscape by Masri that captures the sensation of moving through the Italian coast rather than describing it literally. Sweeping passages of green, ochre, and deep blue are built with confident, physical brushwork, creating a sense of terrain, wind, and shifting light that feels both immediate and memory-driven. The composition suggests hills and coastal pathways dissolving into the atmosphere, allowing color and gesture to carry the emotional weight of place. Masri has long drawn inspiration from Italy, particularly the Tuscan and coastal regions, where he returns repeatedly to paint and absorb the rhythm of the landscape. In this work, that relationship is felt through the balance of structure and spontaneity, where observation gives way to intuition. Painted in oil, To, Livorno reflects Masri’s mature approach to landscape painting, one rooted in experience, movement, and a deep affection for the Italian countryside.
