Dutch, b. 1938
Ton Schulten (Ootmarsum, 25 April 1938) is a Dutch painter.
Schulten was born as the son of a baker in Ootmarsum and grew up in a Catholic middle-class family with six children. From 1956, he attended the Academy for Art and Industry in Enschede, where he graduated cum laude in 1962 as a graphic designer. After a career in advertising, Schulten decided in 1989 to devote himself entirely to painting. In 1992, he discovered the Twente rural landscape as a source of inspiration, after which his work became more figurative. In 2004, Ton Schulten's somewhat expressionist style of painting gained a degree of recognition, as his characteristic style was called Consensualism by art critic Hartmut Rau in a monograph on Schulten.
Schulten works in his hometown Ootmarsum, where 'Museum Ton Schulten' is also located, which offers an overview of his work.
Emotion and enchantment, the world in the eyes of Ton Schulten. A world full of emotion and enchantment. The colour, the glow and lustre, the shape. The emotion and experience. That is the world of Ton Schulten. Or perhaps: the world in the eyes of Ton Schulten. Learn about that world. A world full of emotion and enchantment. Nobody can miss the mysterious power of the exquisite work of Ton Schulten, the son of an ordinary baker from Ootmarsum. His work, which is known the world over, enchants the audience.
Shapes, colours and compositions that make you feel like you are in paradise, provide a sense of tranquillity. Impressive and sometimes even hypnotic. Emotional and so beautifully composed, that no one can ignore the power and mystery of his work. Tom Schulten’s work warms the soul and its beauty is unequalled.to
