William Dacres Adams Art
British, 1864-1951
William Dacres Adams, a painter and lithographer of portraits and architectural subjects. Adams was born in Reading. He was educated at Radley College and Exeter College, Oxford. He studied law in Birmingham but in 1884, abandoned his studies to train at the Birmingham School of Art. He studied at Sir Hubert Herkomers School of Art at Bushey and in Munich, Germany from 1886–90. Adams was elected as a member of the Royal Portrait Society and was an Associate Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited extensively at the Fine Art Society, three one-man shows during the 1920s. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute and Leicester Galleries. His work was greatly influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites with whom his father was acquainted from school days. Some of his works are in the collections of The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Worcester College, Oxford, Museum of Fine Art, San Francisco and Wellington Art Gallery, New Zealand. Adams lived for some time at Lechlade, Gloucestershire and finally at Lewes, Sussex.

Jules Van Biesbroeck was the son of Jules Evariste van Biesbroeck, a painter of Ghent, but was born in Italy, in Portici, near Naples, while his parents were staying there. (In the 19th century many artists made educational trips to Italy). It was a long visit: the child was two years old by the time the family returned to Ghent.[1]
After a short period of practice with his father, van Biesbroeck was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent.
