Extra large 19th-century French giltwood and gesso mirror in the Louis XVI Revival tradition, featuring an architectural rectangular form with highly sculptural foliate ornament, bead detailing, and distinctive projecting corner blocks with applied floral rosettes. Potentially built in Lyon as there are Lyon newspapers clippings from the 1830s glued to the back to cover seams. Dimensions: 71.5” H 39 5/8” L 2.225” D The frame has a beautifully aged, layered gilt finish with areas of darkened patina, wear, and exposed underlayers that give the piece considerable depth and character.
