Emma Scully Gallery promotes applied arts through a curated exhibition program.
Curated context is the origin of meaning of our programming. Conceptual interpretation is at the heart of our contextualization.
Context is never neutral. The belief that the white box is a neutral space supports a particular type of art, one situated in a narrative of art as individual expression. Applied arts are social and cultural expression. Applied art objects are not intended for white box spaces, by imposing ‘neutral’ presentation on these objects you present fragments.
We look to make contextualization a central part of value arguing rich site-specific installation increases the interest and importance of functional art.
