The serpentine shaped frieze has incredibly fine carvings of fabulous Renaissance ornament. The centre cartouche is upheld by male figures terminating in scrolling acanthus leaf’s, these flanked by dragons amongst foliage and female figures on each of the curved corners. The frieze upheld by highly carved baluster shaped pedestals on Rosso Verona jambs. Made from Pietra d’Istria marble and Rosso Verona marble. Photographed in un-restored original condition, can be cleaned if preferred, circa 1830 Provenance: Talygarn house in Wales, rebuilt during the 19th century by George Thomas Clarke, industrialist, ironmaster for Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

An extremely well carved pair of Statuary Carrara marble busts on marble pedestals, by important sculptor Odoardo Fantacchiotti.  Odoardo Fantacchiotti (11 May 1811–4 June 1877) was an Italian sculptor of the late-Neoclassic period. He was born in Rome, but his family moved to Florence. In 1820, he enrolled in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. At the Academy, he studied under S. Ricci, and first started exhibiting in 1828. Gaining the patronage of the Grand Duke, he continued his studies, following the ideas of Aristodemo Costoli of depicting the "bello naturale". In 1839 at the Academy, he exhibited the work of the Massacre of the Innocents. In 1840 he was named professor at the Academy. Among his public works are the statue of Boccaacio and dell'Accorso for the ground floor niches of the courtyard of the Uffizi, medallions commemorating Francesco Redi and the bust of Ferdinando II de Medici for the Museo della Specola, a statue of Sallustio Bandini (now at the Accademia dei Georgeofili, but initially planned for the loggia of the Uffizi. A marble Virgin...

A carved giltwood mirror of very large-scale and great quality, made by Froom & Cribbs of London. The beautifully carved wooden frame decorated with flowers and foliage. The scrolled arched top centred by an open scallop cartouche with cresting eagle. Both the frame and glass are in good condition. Stamped on the back with important London makers name and address. William Froom (1791-1865) was christened in 1791 at St George the Martyr, Southwark, the son of William and Martha Froom. He first comes to notice in 1825, when he attended a meeting of more than fifty master carvers and gilders who resolved to resist the demands of journeymen for an increase in wages (The Times 30 June 1825). He followed Fentham & Co (qv) at 136 Strand, using the description, ‘Late Fentham & Co’, on his trade label for many years. By 1829 Froom had entered into a short-lived partnership with William Cribb (qv), which was dissolved in 1831 (London Gazette 3 May 1831). William Froom and his wife Elizabeth Anne had five children born between 1831 and 1840, christened at St Mary-le-Strand.William Froom was a customer of the composition ornament maker, George Jackson & Sons (qv), 1836-1842 (see Jackson account book, V&A Archive of Art and Design, AAD/2012/1/2/3). In the 1839 directory Froom was listed as a looking glassmaker and in the 1841 census as a plate glass manufacturer. He would appear to have retired from business in 1849 from his entries in the Post Office directory. In the 1851 census he was living in Oxford Square...

The solid marble jambs with gilt-bronze Nemean Lion masks at the top, these are under an arched frieze with a gilt-bronze centre cartouche depicting the mask of Hercules wearing the Nemean lion pelt.
