Pedro Friedeberg is a Mexican artist and designer known for his surrealist work filled with lines colors and ancient and religious symbols. His best known piece is the “Hand-Chair” a sculpture/chair designed for people to sit on the palm, using the fingers as back and arm rests. Friedeberg began studying as an architect but did not complete his studies as he began to draw designs against the conventional forms of the 1950s. His work caught the attention of artist Mathias Goeritz, who encouraged him to continue as an artist. John Dickinson, Hand-Carved Chair, USA, 1969
By John Dickinson
Located in New York, NY
Created in 1969 as a prototype this carved chair in exaggerated classical style, epitomizes Dickinson’s love of form and fantasy. Lending his love of the ancient world with 20th Century style. The chair is carved to resemble upholstery, with hints of ancient Egypt, China and Greece, in its unique and sculptural design. Only two of these chairs were made. This prototype chair and its mate were too expensive to put into production, however the form was used as the prototype for the upholstered chairs he would do on commission.
Pictured on page 231 of “Modern Americana” published by Rizzoli. The chair is shown in Dickinson’s Pacific Heights, San Francisco firehouse home.
Provenance: Estate of Carlene Safdie...

Six Dots Design Unique desk
Located in London, GB
Joseph Ellwood is a British artist and designer working under the studio name: Six Dots Design. Joseph has been named one of 10 'Future Icons' in design by Wallpaper* magazine, collaborated with the luxury brand Rimowa and has exhibited globally..
The aesthetic of the work aims to challenge and disrupt the mid-century norms of furniture today. I have taken inspiration from the likes of Perriand and Prouvé and distorted their pieces to create a body of work that relates to our current generation. The lives we live today are fluid in gender, identity, expression and thought. This collection represents this confusion, indecision and anxiety in a whimsical and endearing way.
This work aims to question what it means to reflect your identity though the objects surrounding you.
This desk is a one off piece designed and fabricated by Joe Ellwood...
