Jack Rogers Hopkins, Custom Lounge Chair and Ottoman, USA, 1972

About the Item

Exceptional, unique lounge chair and ottoman is a fantastic example of Hopkins' unrestrained artistic expression. Laminated construction allowed Hopkins to create elegant large-scale pieces. Known for combining the utility of several items into one functional form – Hopkins created this sculptural chair by incorporating a reading lamp and a book shelf. Variations are documented in California Design Eight and California Design Eleven by The Pasadena Art Museum. Excellent original condition. The chair is featured in "Modern Americana: Studio Furniture from High Craft to High Glam." Todd Merrill and Julie V. Iovine, Rizzoli, p.88-89. Chair measures: 43" H x 66" L x 39" D. Ottoman measures: 13" H x 23" L x 22" D.
