About MPdL Studio
MPdL Studio is an architecture and design practice based in Ann Arbor, Boston, New York, and Princeton led by award-winning architect Monica Ponce de Leon, AIA.
MPdL Studio has extensive experience in many scales and typologies including furniture design and interiors, private residences, commercial projects, art installations, and master plans. In private residential projects, every detail from the architecture to the interior finishes, furniture, and art is customized for clients’ lifestyles. MPdL Studio's designs pays particular attention to materials, using digital technology to revisit old craft traditions where materials are used in unexpected ways. Many of the studio’s projects experiment in new ways to think about detailed brick work, glass, millwork, and cabinetry. Custom furniture is often designed and combined with re-finished vintage pieces. Special attention is also given to window treatments which can truly transform a space.
MPdL Studio brings together an interdisciplinary team of architects and designers collaborating across offices. Ponce de Leon's work as principal architect is integral to each project, and is supported by a diverse team bringing a unique point of view to each design process.
Among Ponce de Leon’s many prestigious honors, she received the National Design Award in Architecture from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian National Design Museum. She has also been honored with the Academic Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; the USA Target Fellow in Architecture and Design from United States Artists; the Young Architects and Emerging Voices awards from the Architectural League of New York; was inducted into the National Academy of Design. Her highly acclaimed and broadly published work has received 13 Progressive Architecture (P/A) Awards, 14 awards from the American Institute of Architects including the AIA Institute Honor Award for Architecture, as well as the prestigious Harleston Parker Medal from the Boston Society of Architects.
