Vintage Carved Wood Angel Mold with X Breastplate
Located in Wichita, KS
This Wood Carved Vintage Angel Sculpture has alot of history. The Manhattan Angels were commissioned sometime in the mid-twentieth century for a church restoration in New York City. The sculptor, Bogden Bogkowski, was commissioned to carve these “angels” for the church’s planned restoration. Bogkowski worked on them for a period of time but ultimately the funding never came through and Bogkowski stopped working on them. In the 1980s Bogkowski died and the angels then went to his nephew who lived in New York. They remained in his basement until purchased in 2020 there until we purchased them in 2020. There are four different angels and one tall angel...

1930s Architectural Silvered Foundry Form, Mold, Casting, Sculpture Garden
Located in Buffalo, NY
Industrial Foundry Form, factory casting, beautiful silver zinc original paint, wonderful patina, whimsical, fantasy Art Deco design,'Emaerald City' Very sculptural, see other listings for additional Foundry molds. Foundry molds and patterns are wooden tools, carved out or built up to create negative space, which in turn is used to make the inverse form or shape to be used for the casting of metal. To make a wooden mold, wood needs to be stacked up, like a relief, or cut-out, like a sunken relief, with handles or other pieces to grab and pick up the mold from the molding material. Individual pattern pieces that get packed into the molding material are carved and shaped. The space or forms that these pieces make in the molding material will be the inverse of the final cast piece. These antique foundry molds...

Antique Brown Painted Gate Doors, Grand Scale
Located in Round Top, TX
These extremely large and imposing gate doors still have their original brown paint. The sheer size alone (9' wide) creates a strong and dramatic presence, accented with the unique original iron hinges, handle and locking system. We chose to leave the old vines that have entwined with it as it adds to their outdoor character. This huge, heavily paneled gate was used on a wealthy farmer's house in town as it was big enough for a hay wagon from the family farm out in the country to enter their house in the village. Rare Large Scale Pastoral Plaster Sculpture from Loriol-du-Comtat, France, 1914
Located in Dallas, TX
Found in a chateau in Loriol du Comtat, in the Provence region of France, this large-scale plaster sculpture is signed and dated by the artist, making it a rare find. Originally part of a boiserie containing a fireplace, the sculpture decorated the main hall of the chateau. The artist, Marius Sain, created the piece for the owners of the chateau in 1914. The lovely depiction of a shepherdess and her flock is a fitting subject for an area of France in which shepherding is such an important part of the culture. The preserved heritage of transhumance in Provence goes back at least 800 years, as evidenced by collections of ancient songs, stories, and art. Life-size in scale, the lovely sculpture features a mix of high-, mid-, and low-relief embellishments. A hooded shepherdess tends to her flock of sheep with a crook in hand. A dog sits calmly at her feet as the flock gathers in front of them. Both the shepherdess and the dog are in high relief, as is the lead sheep. The lamb seen suckling from the front sheep was crafted in mid relief, as is the visible head on the far right of the sculpture. There are a few sheep behind them in low relief. Large trees can be seen on either side of the group, while off in the background (faintly visible) are a castle with four fastigiate Mediterranean cypress trees (known as Stricta) and a spired church. The attention to detail is magnificent, with textured surfaces including the animals’ fur and the uneven ground. Block print on the plaster can be seen at the base. The letters read Le Soir, which is French for “The Night”. The right side of the sculpture has been signed “M Sain 1914”. Marius Joseph Sain was born in 1877 in Avignon, France. In 1902, Sain moved to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Through introductions by his older brother and painter, Paul...
