This fabulous 4 section wrought iron gate from France has beautiful scrolling motifs throughout, and it is in excellent overall condition. Some of the tole motifs have been modestly highlighted with gold lacquer. The rest of the iron gate has a worn polish, which gives it a wonderful finish. The gate is completely hand wrought, with all connections being pinned. We chose the angle for the gates in the photos below, but due to their hinges, they can be installed either completely flat, or at 90 degrees, or any angle in between. Their shape is high at the ends and middle, making them more interesting to the eye. Gates such as these can be used inside and out for various design applications. Pair of Early 18th Century Forged and Lacquered Iron Gates from Provence France

These fabulous gates are period Regence, circa 1715 and come from a chapel in Provence. They have beautiful double-sided decorative motifs in gilt tole, green laquer and paint. Forged C and S-scrolls along with acanthus leaf motifs are seen throughout the gates. The acanthus leaf’s symbolism is immortality and is often seen on religious ornamentation. Towards the center top of each gate are two fantastical animals: winged birds with horses’ heads and two hooves, each resting upon green lacquered pedestals which are outlined in gold. Further down, at the center post is a green stylized drapery treatment with gilt rings and surround. There are fucntional round iron knobs for opening and closing the gates at the center, and toward the bottom is a vertical latch for keeping the gates in place. These antique French...
