By The Axe
Located in Katonah, NY
We are pleased to offer this pair of Dutch Delft blue and white chargers decorated in the center with an image of a delicate vase filled with chrysanthemums and peonies. The design in the center of the charger is derived from Chinese decoration, where auspicious flowers were put in bamboo baskets as attractive interior decorative elements. The border of the charger is adorned with four floral panels, which alternate with four cobalt blue panels with fish-net patterns. The edge of each charger is painted with orange slip...

Hand painted Dutch platter
By Delft
Located in AMSTERDAM, NH
Stunning Delft Blue 18.5" Diameter Wall Platter. This blue Delft collectible wall plate is exquisitely decorated with the typical parrakeets and floral theme of the Velsen Aardewerkfabriek Sassenheim in Holland. It is rimmed with classic Delft flowers and stylized designs around the perimeter. The plate is clearly marked VLS ( DELFT BLAUW HAND PAINTED MADE IN HOLLAND) on the back. The scalloped and fluted shape of this large platter Keramiekfabriek Velsen was founded in 1920 in the town of Velsen, nearby Haarlem in the Netherlands. It started out as an art pottery factory called the "Kennemer Pottenbakkerij". In 1936 the name was changed to Velsen. In 1943, during the second world war, the factory was ordered to move, and was resettled in the nearby town of Sassenheim. After the war the factory started to produce mainly handpainted Delftware, both in blue & white and polychrome styles. Especially the polychrome style became its strength, because Velsen used a wider and more colourful palette of colours than most other Delftware producers. Velsen also made green Delft (green & white) and red Delft...

Ceramic Ashtray or Key Holder/Vide Poche Dutch Art Nouveau
Located in Miami, FL
A beautiful Art Nouveau Gouda pottery ashtray. Wonderfully colorful floral hand painted design, from Holland. This well made decorative object can also be used as a key holder/vide poche. Signed Dalia Konin Klyk, Coedewaalem, Gouda, Holland and numbered on bottom. Measures: 4 3/4 in. diameter x 2 3/8 in. high Other interesting information about this form of pottery: There isn’t a factory called Gouda Pottery; the pottery is called that because the main factories were in Gouda. Gouda (pronounced ‘how-da’) is the generic term we use for all the pottery factories in Holland – all Dutch pottery other than Delftware, that is. The area around Gouda had clay to make pots, which is why most of the factories settled there. A lot of the clay also came from England. The Dutch started producing clay pipes...

Black & White Dutch platter with hand painted details
By Petrus Regout
Located in AMSTERDAM, NH
Stunning wall plate by Société Ceramique Maestricht. Made in Holland. The plate has a beautiful black & white decor called Wilde Rose with hand painted accents in pink, yellow, green. The Wilde Rose decor was produced between 1856 and 1909. The pottery mark at the back dates between 1890 and 1950, so this plate is from between 1890 and 1909. The Société Céramique (Maastricht: de Zjèrremik) was a pottery factory in the Dutch city of Maastricht, which operated independently from 1863 to 1958 and then for several decades as part of N.V. Sphinx-Céramique and N.V. Koninklijke Sphinx. The company's name lives on in the name of the Céramique district, which arose on the 23-hectare industrial site after most of the factory buildings were demolished. The Avenue Céramique, the district's main street, and the Centre Céramique, which houses a collection of Maastricht pottery...
