This exceptional German sterling silver dressing table box has a cylindrical form with a domed cover.
The surface of the body is embellished with an impressive blue hot enamel panel incorporating scrolling leaf and floral decoration.
This antique box is fitted with the original hinged cover embellished with exceptional hot enamel ornamentation, all framed with a plain border.
The domed enamel panel to the cover depicts a female in draped layered clothing interacting with a male figure, examining harvested fruits.
The interior of the box retains the original gilding.
The hallmarks struck to the underside this exceptional box include:

An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection.
These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form.
The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim.
Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim.
The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength.
By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions.
Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions.
It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books.
Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items.
Hand-painted miniatures can be done with multiple different techniques.
The most important that we use on our articles are of three kinds:
1) Fire enamel.
2) Water tempera on an ivory plate.
3) Painted on mother-of-pearl.
Fire enameled miniatures:
On a first layer of enamel generally white or very clear or even transparent suitably liquefied at a temperature of about 750° C, the chosen subject is painted using miniature colors which are as many colored crystals, ground and reduced to a very fine, almost impalpable powder washed and purified in distilled water with the addition of small quantities of deoxidizing acids which, diluted with essential oils (usually essential oil of solder), can be mixed to form a palette of colors.
With very fine sable hair brushes you draw the subject starting from the perimeter and then gradually adding various layers of color.
It is necessary to carry out various firings very often so that the colors harden and are not absorbed by the underlying glaze as, during the subsequent firings at 750 ° C, during liquefaction, it would spread irremediably. Hence the need to form the painting a little at a time, cooking it numerous times.
Therefore it is necessary to proceed with numerous retouching, often overlapping different colors that only the painter's experience knows. A beautiful miniature needs from 20 to over 50 firings and is finished when the painter deems he does not have to further intervene.
Some colors must have darker tones than others because then, by superimposing the transparent enamel placed at the end of the miniature, they fade. This transparent layer, called “fondant” in jargon, must be smoothed and polished like all other translucent enamel colors.

This charming piece of jewish history in front of you is a one of kind modern Judaica object, This box used to hold the Etrog To protect the it during the holiday of Sukkot, it is traditionally Wrapped in silky flax fibers and stored in a special decorative box, mostly made from silver. Wolpert designed this amazing hand hammered Bauhaus style box in 1963-1964 while he was Working in New York. all of the boxes we could found from this design made by Wolpert have The upper part inscribed in a simple engraving with the phrase "Pri Etz Hadar" In Hebrew ״פרי עץ הדר״. the box in front of you is the only example in existence as far as we Know where the letters are also repoussé and also engraved, such a beautiful and hard to get Combination, the rest of the box is shaped as a modernistic Etrog, all the body of the box is Skillfully hand hammered in a way it reflects the light in a warm and calm way, a true Masterpiece of modern judaica by the great and important artist Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert. One of the the two great masters of 20th century Judaica. the Box is marked "WOLPERT" AND "STERLING" and the base has the engraved inscription : "ALAN WECHSLER GENERAL CHAIRMAN, ALLIED JEWISH APPEAL OF SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY 1978"

Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert was born in Hildesheim, Germany, to an Orthodox family. In 1916-1920, He began his studies in sculpture at the Frankfurt School of Art. In 1925-1928, he studied Goldsmithing at the Frankfurt School of Art. Following the presentation of the works in the 1930 exhibition "Kult und Form" ("Ritual and Form") at the Jewish Museum in Berlin, his works became well known in the German Jewish World. His works were greatly influenced by Modernist design, especially the Bauhaus Movement. Wolpert's works avoid decoration, relying on clean, geometric shapes. In 1933, Following the Nazi rise to power in Germany, he immigrated to the Mandatory Palestine with His family. This extraordinary and beautiful cased-box, was created in London England during the Art Deco period. Has a great provenance and was designed by the famous silversmiths and retail store of Finnigans Limited, back in the 1932. The thematic of this box is rare and very popular. Has been crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver standard with gilded interiors. The case has been made in a cushioned compact shape with eight barrels hinge and a push pressure thumb. The main panel on top is illustrated with a landscape scene and a Formula-1 racing red car, with the number L6, all realized with polychrome enamels. The reverse is embellished with engine turned guilloche decorations. This fine piece is masterfully worked with extreme details and is a very especial example for any collector, or a wonderful gift for someone special. It is in perfect preserved condition.
