An art deco guilloche enamel box made by Bliss Brothers.
Beautiful enamel round box, created during the art deco period, back in the 1925. This beautiful antique piece was carefully crafted at the workshops of Bliss Brothers Company in solid .925/.999 standard silver with a hinged lid. Fitted with a mirror and decorated at both sides with engine turned guilloche decoration topped with applications of translucent pale yellow enamel and rose flowers.
Weight: 35.90 Grams, (23.01 Dwt).
Measurements: Diameter of 44 mm and a height of 12 mm (1.73 x 0.47 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark BB Co associated to Bliss Brothers, the mark for the assay of the silver and signed, "BB Co. STERLING".
Bliss Brothers Company
The mark BBCO was used by Bliss Brothers Co. of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The company opened in 1873 as Bliss Brothers & Everett. It was founded by Charles Edwin Bliss, Everett Bradford Bliss, and R.L.F. Everett. According to an 1883 history of the county, Bliss Brothers & Everett "made a general variety of ladies' and gents' gold-plated goods." The company became Bliss Brothers Co. sometime after 1887. Compacts, pill boxes, and other small items, including gold-filled and sterling jewelry were made. Chronology c.1915 & 1922: Attleboro MA. c.1934: 191 N. Guilloché
Is a term used in fine jewelry or objects de Vertu to enhance the appearance of boxes, frames, brooches, rings or pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue.
