A late 18th century, Georgian, Mahogany tea caddy having extremely attractive inlaid conch shells, banded and strung decoration, with hinged lid enclosing lidded interior retaining partial paper foil lining.
This particular caddy is relatively plain and simple in design, but the attractive inlaid decoration lifts it significantly.
The condition remains relatively good and clearly it has been well loved throughout its life.

The Sewing Box of rectangular form made from Sycamore is extensively decorated with Spa scenes to each side which include; la Sauvenière, la Géronstère, le Tonnelet, les Cascades de Coo and vue du aviny du château dimbles. When opened the box reveals a light pink lined sewing box with multiple compartments for storage and tools. The interior lid is finished with a framed panel of rauch velvet and an outer border of simulated ropework. The Sewing Box also contains four original spa spinners with painted scenes and a central lidded compartment painted with a further spa scene of la place du spa at lo fontaine du pouhon. An exceptionally rare Irish George III hand cut full lead crystal single tea caddy of rectangular outline with canted corners and outstanding quality, first quarter of the nineteenth century.
The finely chased silver mounted rim and hinged cover, hand cut with three bands of lozenges on a plain ground, decorative star cut base underneath.
Condition: Exceptional condition for such an early piece, with no losses or clouding inside, silver mounts are unmarked but test positive for silver. Wonderful age wear underneath on base. Lock is present but key does not turn. Back and front views are similar.
Measures: Height: 5.25” (13.5cm). Width: 3.75” (9.5cm). Depth: 3” (7.5cm).

Another unusual feature is the fine Greek Key inlay to both the the lid and top.
The interior has two lidded compartments later covered in paper which can be seen in the photographs.
The front houses the tasselled key (unfortunately not working but the perfect finishing touch).

A very rare and high quality collectable piece, the box is solid Coromandel wood with brass edges, it’s a lovely dark timber with a similar grain to Rosewood. The suite inside is all sterling silver, fully hallmarked T.W for Thomas Whitehouse, the Queens head for Queen Victoria, the sideways facing Lion for Sterling silver, the Panther head for London and the date letter M for 1867
The box has Braham locks which were of such high quality Gillows of Lancaster an London used them on their finest furniture, at the back of the base section you have a hand engraved plaque which reads Asprey Maker 166 Bond Street London, in the middle of this plaque is a depression switch, if you press it a hidden drawer pops out of the bottom.
