An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George V English sterling silver and enamel Art Deco candlesticks; an addition to our antique silverware collection These exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V sterling silver piano candlesticks have a plain tapering square form onto a circular spreading base. The cylindrical capitals are each embellished with a band of guilloche enamel to a plain circular sconce. The capitals are supported by square tapering columns, ornamented with black enamel panels and accented with impressive Art Deco silver motif to one side. The geometric designs are embellished with eighteen pavé set marcasites. The base of each Art Deco piano candle holder is ornamented with further guilloche enamel, to a plain collet style rim. Each cast silver snake model is surmounted with a circular baluster shaped capital, embellished with bands of leaf decoration; each hallmarked detachable capital secures with a screw fitment. The cobra shaped columns of the candlesticks are ornamented with details reproducing the snake's scales and anatomical features. These magnificent candlesticks are the finest examples of their type you could hope to acquire. NOTE: These candlesticks bear the foreign manufatcure hallmark alongside the full Scottish marks; it can be determined that George Edward & Sons were the importers. The piece bears characteristics reflecting Kutch (Cutch) silverware, and similar candlesticks were created by Gorham Manufacturing Company in the Egyptian revival style; these candlesticks bear a lotus flower decorated capital. A fine and impressive pair of antique American cast sterling silver tapersticks; an addition of our ornamental silverware collection. These impressive antique American sterling silver tapersticks have an octofoil panelled form, replicating the details of a Classic English George I style. The plain panelled waisted cylindrical capitals are encircled with protruding scalloped borders to the rims. Each plain waisted column bears a panelled bulbous knop to the upper portion and further scalloped decoration to the lower. The columns surmount octagonal shaped, incurved bases with a sunken well and plain collet style rim. Each candlestick does not have a weighted base. The underside of each base bears the maker's mark 'James Robinson' and 'sterling' standard mark. Condition These antique tapersticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. An outstanding pair of sterling silver candlesticks by English silversmith Alexander Johnston. Reflecting the mid-18th century Georgian taste for the Rococo style, these candlesticks feature deeply chased decoration, from shells and palms to acanthus and rosettes, as well as an engraved armorial on each pedestal. Their exuberant yet balanced design is characteristic of the sophisticated style brought to England by French Huguenot silversmiths in the 1700s. Alexander Johnston first entered his mark in 1747 and work such as his, as well as that of artists like the celebrated Paul de Lamerie, indicated the adoption of French forms in all of the decorative arts, from furniture to textiles, hailing the dramatic shift from the more restrained classical manner. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of large antique George V English sterling silver lyre candlesticks; an addition of our ornamental silverware collection. These exceptional antique George V English sterling silver candlesticks have been modelled in the form lyre. The upper portion of the stringed instrument is surmounted with a swept oval capital, encompassed with embossed concave batwing decoration. The capitals retain the original detachable hallmarked push fit sconces, each embellished with thread decorated borders to the rim. The column of each candlestick features details replicating the opposing scrolling frame and five-strings of the musical instrument. Each oval swept base is embellished with fluted batwing decoration, accented with further thread decoration to the rim. These antique candlesticks have weighted bases and retain the original hallmarked silver lined underside. Such large candlesticks, modelled in the form of lyre, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition These rare sterling silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and are in exceptional condition. Each candlestick has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the rim of the bases, in addition to part hallmarks to the underside and sleeve of the sconce are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
