Charming American Toleware Tin Box. Box is hand-painted in vivid folk art floral motifs of red, gold, and green against a deep black background. The domed lid features an oval black tin handle, and the front of lid retains the front portion of its original latch. This example displays the warmth and character typical of the 19th century decorative tinware, where utilitarian household objects were elevated through hand-painted embellishment. The floral and foliate designs were often inspired by Pennsylvania German or New England folk art traditions. This carafe/pitcher is part of the Franciscan El Patio dinnerware line introduced by Gladding-McBean in 1934, known for its simple design and iconic "pretzel" shaped cup handle. This piece is in good vintage condition with one chip (on the inside of the lid, not noticable while lid is on the carafe - see photo) or scratches and measures approximately 6"H x 5"W x 4.25"D. #9039 The carafe is marked on the bottom with the oval GMCB mark that was in use from 1934 to 1938.
