Located in North Hollywood, CA
Exquisite Vintage 1950s Handcrafted Wooden Marionette with Burmese String, Reflecting Asian Opera Artistry. This splendid Burmese-Thai marionette is a testament to masterful hand carving and intricate hand painting. Adorned with ornate fabrics in red and gold colors heavily embellished with beads, sequins, colored glass, embroidery, and gemstones, this marionette is a true work of art. Whether you choose to display it on your wall, use it as a mobile to bring color to a child's room, or incorporate it into your authentic boho and ethnic decor, it will captivate your senses. A fine representation of handcrafted village folk puppets from Asia, this marionette stands out for its unique quality. What sets marionettes apart from regular puppets is their manipulation through strings controlled from above, offering an unparalleled range of movement. Operating these strings demands a high level of skill, making marionettes a cherished form of puppetry. In Asia, marionette troupes were often sponsored and patronized by royalty, and while their performances were undoubtedly captivating and entertaining, they also served a significant cultural role. This marionette is not only a collector's delight but also a stunning piece of art. It portrays Minthar, the prince, in all his vintage glory...

Antique 18th Century Chinese Porcelain Plate with Regency Style Overdecorating
Located in Amsterdam, Noord Holland
A very nicely made piece of 18th century porcelain decorated with a beautiful scene. Underglaze blue and overglaze other enamels done later in Europe. We have also added a picture of how a similar original Blue and white dish would have looked like. This is an example of British overdecoration.Provenance:Provenance: Doyle Sep 27, 2024 11:00 Boston Collects, Lot 1083 Six Chinese Porcelain Table Items 18th and 19th centuries Estate / Collection: Property of a Jamestown, Rhode Island Collector Often seen as ugly and black sheep of the porcelain world. British 1810-1820 Clobbered wares deserve better as they are historically very interesting. So lets call them George the IV or Regency Taste redecorated porcelain. And leave the clobbered behind us as it does no justice to what they are at all. Its not that because we live in a time were these super funky colours are out of taste that we should hate on these pieces. A short history! During the early 19th century, the Prince Regent (later King George IV) played a key role in cultivating a taste for the exotic Orient among the British elite, influencing interior design during the Regency era. His lavish projects, such as the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, epitomized this fascination. The Pavilion, with its blend of Indian, Chinese, and Gothic elements, became a symbol of the Prince’s extravagant taste. The interiors featured Chinese wallpaper, Indian textiles, and oriental furniture, reflecting the era’s growing interest in Chinoiserie and other oriental-inspired designs. This trend extended to the decorative arts, where clobbered Chinese...

Pair of Very Large Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Vases with French Ormolu Mounts
Located in London, GB
Pair of very large Chinese cloisonné enamel vases with French ormolu mounts Chinese and French, 20th century Height 215cm, diameter 78cm These superb vases bring together exceptional Chinese enamelling with ornate French ormolu mounts, combining the complex cloisonné technique with sumptuously detailed gilt-bronze additions. The ovoid-form vases are applied with lavish natural designs on the main body, decorated with eye-catching birds and butterflies amongst flowers and shrubbery. The animal and foliate motifs are set on top of a cream ground with intricate geometric patterning that emphasises the elaborate design of the vases. The necks of the vases are similarly decorated with birds and greenery. The necks and feet also feature ornate geometric patterns that complement the natural colour palette of the main body, adding further intricacy to the enamelled designs. Surmounting the vases is a pierced ormolu rim, which features acanthus-style and pineapple designs which complement the foliate imagery on the vases below. Each vase is mounted on four gilt-bronze feet cast in the shape of Chinese 'Foo' winged lions, combining impressive Chinese motifs with exceptional French craftsmanship. Cross-cultural pieces like these vases were highly popular decorative wares in late 19th century Europe; likewise, this pair effortlessly synthesise the design styles of the East and the West into monumental items with ornate and colourful designs. Provenance: From the collection of Larry Flynt...
