Eye of Discovery, a Blue & Black Abstract Glass Artwork by Yorgos Papadopoulos
Located in London, GB
‘Eye of Discovery’ is a unique sculpture by the Cypriot artist, Yorgos Papadopoulos, created from glass, silicone and pigments with a hematite patinated steel bezel and stand. Papadopoulos has reworked the iconic 'Evil Eye' amulet with his Stratified Jewels Collection. Taking this simple composition as a starting point, the scale is blown up and the colours completely reworked using resins and glass pigments. Using a pioneering technique he developed at the Royal College of Art. Yorgos combines pigments and shattered sheets of Industrial glass which he then re-laminates them to create architectural-scale artworks that look fragile but are extremely durable. Yorgos Papadopoulos initially studied as an interior designer at Middlesex University changing to a Ceramics Diploma at the City Lit in London. Whilst studying for his MA in ceramics at the RCA, Papadopoulos became drawn to the glass studios and after an incident where a sheet of Industrial glass was broken, he became seduced by the Material’s contradictory qualities. Excited by what is normally viewed as a bad outcome in the glass Community he spent the rest of his MA experimenting with and breaking glass. ‘Glass is my canvas, hammers are my brushes,’ says Papadopoulos. His ability to exploit and harness accident has informed his entire working practice. His architectural panels create a stunning focus in cool modern spaces, the contrast between the unpredictable movement of fracture and the clean lines of contemporary architecture excite the eye. Papadopoulos’ work is represented in private collections globally and public collections including; Eskishihir Glass Museum, Eskishihir (Turkey), Derix Glass Studio Taunusstein (Germany) and British Airways Art Collection - Heathrow T4 (UK). He is the author of the A&C Black book Glass Lamination...

Ô-CULT TOTEM by Richard Yasmine
Located in Geneve, CH
Ô-CULT TOTEM by Richard Yasmine Materials: Powder coated st.steel, blackened brass, neo cement on st.steel & raffia tassels Dimensions: Height 120 x diameter 40 cm. Ô-CULT our latest commissioned design piece for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy curated by La Triennale di Milano design Museum, a social design project related to the use of water for the exhibition titled “The shapes of Water”. Water, one of the elements that make up everything in this world. The symbolism of water has a universal trace of purity and fertility, it is the source of life since the ancient cultures and considered an aspect of wisdom that takes the form in which it is held. It does not resist, it flows, but always goes where it wants to go to fill empty spaces. As water is becoming rare yet more and more precious due to the environmental problems such as global warming, pollution, climate changes etc… our concept, to create a fantastic water safe taking the shape of a mascot /Genie imitating the authentic type of liquid containers descending since the Neolithic period till the ancient Roman era passing by our heritage but definitely in a contemporary Silhouette using multiple materials. In addition to the shape, providing a faucet, using the whole component as a useful water dispenser...

Apertura Slate 04, Grey & Rust Glass and Steel Abstract Sculpture by Jon Lewis
Located in London, GB
'Apertura Slate 04' is a unique sculpture by the British artist, Jon Lewis, created from handblown television glass, cast iron and steel. The top section is held in place upon the metal base below by a strong magnet. A reoccurring theme throughout the years within Lewis' work has been the synthesis of glass with metal, which under the creative influence of the artist, results in corrosion, patination and texture. These blown glass forms are coated by ‘spark impregnation’. Lewis intensely grinds iron and other metals, creating a multitude of small, hot, airborne metal particles that instantly bond and finally cover, the surface of his glass. Forever evolving works, the consistent detail for each is a window of pure transparent coloured glass, a framed aperture to the internal space, encased and surrounded by this metallic shell. More about the artist; Lewis’ first introduction to glassmaking was in 1989 at Wolverhampton University, where he instantly fell in love with glass as a material. A reoccurring theme throughout the years within his work has been the synthesis of glass with metal, which under the creative influence of the artist, often results in corrosion, patination and texture. With his Apertura series, blown vessels created from recycled Bang & Olufsen Television glass are coated by ‘spark impregnation’. In a parallel and completely different body of work, are Lewis' Moonrock sculptures, which combine glass with dichroic filters and employ his own unique technique which began in 1994. Whilst working as a glass blowing assistant in Oregon, an introduction to ‘dichroic thin film interference filters’ as a form of surface decoration on blown glass, saw Lewis see vast potential. This amazing and very technical material, similar to iridescent butterfly wings, produces colour formed by selective reflection as opposed to absorption. The refractive transformation of light through convex and concave lenses and a diffused projection which this film creates, results in artworks that appear to glow from within, emanating a myriad of colours. A constant in Lewis’ glassmaking palette, this series and technique has featured in many notable sculptural & architectural works and derivations. These two opposing praxis of the artist’s artistic inquiry, often merge into a single expression. Lewis’ work has evolved into a distinctive vision, a fusion of beauty and uniqueness. Every piece of Lewis' art has a twist, in that each of his designs can be traced back to a single sketch. In many instances scribbled several years before just waiting for that last ingredient of inspiration for it to become a reality and brought to life in his multidisciplinary hot glass and metalwork studio in Essex. In the artist’s own words; “In my work I try to create pieces which are hard to identify materially and have an unknown. I enjoy making things whether a glass vessel or a glass furnace, I appreciate things crafted by hand. My history is of engineering and consequently, I love to push the boundaries of what is expected of materials” Lewis was awarded the Glass Society Prize in the British Glass Biennale 2019. His Transceiver received an Honourable Mention in Trace - Showcasing Sustainable Glass Art, in the Glass Art Society’s Virtual 2021 Conference. His dichroic glass has been used in a number of prestigious architectural commissions, including in the Space Pyramidion at the Child Museum of Cairo and the Bliegiessen Sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick...

Tibetan Flint Striker, C. 1850

In 19th-century Tibet, many men carried a fire striker to help ensure survival in the often-harsh climate of the Tibetan Plateau. The finest strikers were finished with precious metals and decorated with repoussé and inlaid stones. This leather flint pouch is decorated with silver and gold plated metalwork and three large beads of turquoise and red coral. The mechag hangs from a simple leather strap and three decorative leather beads hang below. The pouch contains two Tibetan prayer flags...

Contemporary Monument Table Lamp - Square in Travertine, Solid Steel and Glass
Located in London, GB
Monument Lamp - Square with Honed Roman Travertine, Solid Steel Billet and handblown Opal Matte Glass Louis Jobst' Monument Lamp - Square is high quality, bespoke and handmade using solid raw materials. The base is finished with a black patina and cut from 90mm thick steel billet. Markings from the process are visible and intentionally left, exposing the character of the material. A square block of Travertine slots into the steel base. The opal glass diffuser is hand blown with a matte finish. The concept was to design a lamp triptych (circle, triangle and square) made out of high quality materials for a formal interior space. A triptych of varying forms, colors and textures could create a 'common ground' throughout a space, whilst also working as individual lamps. Inspiration has come from architectural forms such as monoliths and monuments, implemented through the design with heavy, robust materials and simple geometric forms. The lamps consist of stacked shapes, designed like a small column...
