Gray glazed stoneware beer stein with a curved ceramic handle with a domed pewter lid with a pewter thumb-lift. Transfer printed in blue is a scene of a soldier, a religious Jew, scales on a table, and a fox. Titled “Trau keinem Fuchs auf gruner Heid, und keinem Jud bei seinem Eid” ("Trust no Fox on his green Meadow and no Jew on his Oath”), Germany, 1920s.
The scene shown is of an argument between a soldier and a Jewish judge. The Jew raised his hand showing the soldier he has to take an oath to tell the truth. The hair of the judge turns up like the horns of Satan. The soldier is accusing a fox of killing his hare, and the fox is shown sneaking away, for he is probably responsible for the death of the hare. The judges table...

A Mochaware mug decorated with bands of slip in light and midnight brown.
Between the midnight and light brown slip bands are three bands of inlaid rouletting decoration in geometric patterns.
Although made circa 1815, the inlaid rouletting gives the mug a surprisingly modern look.
The applied handle has exceptionally crisp acanthus leaf terminals.
Dimensions: 4.9" tall x 4.9" deep from spout to handle, 3.25" diameter

Probably Thuringia,
circa 1750
A tin-glazed earthenware tankard with polychrome decoration and pewter cover. The tankard depicts a Turkish horseman with a saber held high over his head with trees and rockwork to either side painted in unusual colors.
The inside of the pewter cover with stamped touchmark of a hand-held pair of scales below initials CM. On top of the cover are the initials JAS over 1798.
Dimensions: 7 inches high (with cover 9 1/2 inches) x 4 inches x 6 1/2 inches

George Jones Majolica Maple Leaf and Ferns Plate, English, ca. 1870, the relief molded dish with a central green-glazed maple leaf with ferns on a brown ground, the rim banded in yellow ocher, the reverse glazed in green and brown tortoiseshell mottling, with painted design number to the thumbprint reserve, '2584,' which corresponds to the entry, 'Plate, 'large maple leaf with ferns round' as recorded in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Books partially preserved in the Wedgwood Archives, Victoria and Albert Museum, and reprinted in Cluett.
