The Delius family are well known and famous for Bauhaus designs at Hamelner Töpferei from 1933-1966. Second generation Peter Delius opened his own pottery and focused on personally made studio work in the ensuing years. This exaggerated form is clearly the perfect surface for an astounding crystalline glaze as it breaks pools and crystals gradually grow larger down the surface and across the swell of the body. And, the mass, the swell and the handle... are exaggerated. Clearly aware of the design ethos of the 1980's while remaining distinctly Germanic. Thin elegant utilitarian versions of this form and handle (without the exaggeration) date all the way back to the beginnings of the family Bauhaus origins. But, this functions as a wink and a nod to it's function (much like the 2 and 3' tall German steins...
