This is a very good hand-blown, English, Georgian, wine drinking glass with a facet cut stem, dating from the 18th century, circa 1785. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm. The glass has a round funnel bowl which sits on a good facet hand cut stem which extend into the base of the bowl, the stem having a central knop. The stem leads to a conical foot having a snapped off pontil mark to the underside, which has been ground smooth. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian acid etched glass and English sterling silver mounted claret jug; an addition to our wine and drink related silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular, rounded bulbous form. The cylindrical neck of the jug is fitted with an impressive sterling silver, hallmarked mount embellished with impressive chased floral spray decoration on a matte background, all encompassed with a plain border accented with simple drop motifs. The decoration to the mount incorporates an oval vacant cartouche to either side. The underside of the plain spout features a simplified quatrefoil floral motif encompassed with a lozenge shaped border. The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked cover encompassed with further floral decoration and surmounted with an impressive pierced interlacing scrolling leaf decorated thumb piece.
