Paul Storr, A George III Teapot Made in London in 1810 by Paul Storr
Located in London, GB
The Teapot stands on a circular spreading foot which is decorated with a band of lobing. The main body is modelled in the very unusual compressed circular form, with an applied girdle, and rises to a rim of wide lobing. The hinged cover is surrounded by a raised frame decorated with an egg and dart frieze and terminates in a turned fruitwood handle. The fruitwood scroll handle is attached to the main body with a very detailed upper section modelled as a coiled serpent. The base of the handle displays a very unusual serpent head moulding, flanked by a fan of feathers. The spout is decorated with a raying anthemion motif and, underneath, with flaming acanthus foliage. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a raying shell and foliate scroll cartouche. The reverse is engraved with a double Crest, one with the Motto, " Forget Not" engraved on a banner below. The Teapot is in excellent condition and is of the outstanding quality expected from the Storr Workshops. This piece displays a crisp set of hallmarks in the foot and the sterling mark and date letter on the underside of the cover. The Arms, Crest and Motto, are those of the ancient Scottish...
