Vintage Green-glaze Majolica Lotus Pattern Pottery Plates

Located in Downingtown, PA

"Vivid Verdure": Set of 11 Vintage Green Majolica "Lotus" Plates, by The Haldon Group Dated 1983 A vibrant and collectible set of eleven vintage majolica-style pottery plates, produced by The Haldon Group in 1983. Modeled with a striking, high-relief "Lotus" pattern, these plates are a superb example of the late 20th-century revival of Victorian naturalism. Each plate is entirely covered in a rich, emerald green glaze that pools beautifully in the recesses of the molding, creating depth and highlighting the intricate details. The design features a central lotus flower surrounded by large, overlapping ribbed leaves with textured veins and curling stems. The Haldon Group was renowned in the 1980s for their high-quality decorative ceramics that paid homage to antique English and French faience, often rivaling the originals in modeling sharpness. Markings: Printed Mark: The reverse bears the distinctive black logo of The Haldon Group (a stylized "H") and the copyright date ©1983. Condition: Excellent vintage condition- The green glaze remains glossy and bright. No chips or cracks observed. Measurements: Diameter: 8 1/2 inches (21.6 cm) Historical Context: Founded in the late 20th century, The Haldon Group became famous for their "majolica" style wares, particularly their teapots and service ware. Their "Lotus" and "Cabbage" lines are highly sought after today by "Grandmillennial" style collectors who mix them with antique Dodie Thayer or Wedgwood green glazed...

Franciscan by Gladding McBean El Patio Jug Carafe w/ Lid, Sea Mist Green 1930s

By Franciscan China 1, Gladding, McBean

Located in Clifton Springs, NY

Vintage Art deco style carafe or jug with lid features simple, clean design, the iconic “pretzel” shaped cup handle, and high gloss turquoise glaze. It's a part of El Patio line, attributed to Mary Grant, the first dinnerware line produced by Gladding McBean under their Franciscan Pottery division in 1934. The glaze color, Glacial Blue, is one of the first 8 glaze colorways for the line. El Patio line had three versions of the carafe – one with a wooden handle, one with a ceramic handle, and another with a metal holder; this carafe has the build-in ceramic handle, resulting in streamlined, monochromatic look. The carafe is marked on the bottom with the oval GMCB mark that was in use from 1934 to 1938. The mark dates the piece to the earliest years of the production of El Patio, one of the five most important California solid colored dinnerware lines of the 1930s, alongside Pacific Hostessware, Bauer Ringware, Metlox 200 Series, and Vernon Kilns Early California. The Gladding, McBean & Company, one of the biggest potteries in Southern California, was founded in 1875 in Lincoln, California. In 1934 the company began the manufacture of dinnerware and art ware under the trade name Franciscan Ware...

Chinese Export Famille Verte Porcelain & French Ormolu Chinoiserie Centerpiece

By Edward Holmes Baldock

Located in Los Angeles, CA

A very fine and large 19th century Chinese export famille verte porcelain and French figural ormolu-mounted Chinoiserie style centerpiece jardinière, in the manner of Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845). The circular-ovoid porcelain bowl or cachepot, maybe 18th century Jiaqing period (unverified), decorated with a blue and purple ground background with parcel gilt depicting pagodas, trees, mountains and landscape scenes, flanking scrolled handles issuing from the base and ending with a finely chased ormolu pierced acanthus rim. The two ends with a projected mask of Chinese Imperial lions or foo dogs, surmounted and raised on six finely chased ormolu masks of Bacchus satyrs flanked by seashell-like mounts. The Ormolu, circa Paris, 1880. The Porcelain circa 1800 (Maybe 18th century.) Measures: Height: 15 3/4 inches (40 cm.) Overall width: 21 inches (53.4 cm.) Depth: 17 inches (43.2 cm.) Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) was a prominent London furniture dealer to the Royal Family, father of Edward Holmes Baldock. He was first listed in the London trade directories in 1805. That listing had him operating out of No.7 Hanway Street in London, where he was described as selling "china and glass". An updated listing in 1821 described his business as "an antique furniture and ornamental furniture dealer", and in 1826 as a buyer and seller of "china, cabinets, screens, bronzes etc". Between 1832 and 1837 he sold earthenware and glass products to William IV, and upon the ascendancy of Queen Victoria in 1837, sold china until his death in 1845. Baldock was one of the first antique dealers and is similar to the 18th century marchands-merciers Dominique Daguerre and Simon-Philippe. He was the father of Edward Holmes Baldock (1812-1875), a British Conservative Party politician, and of Mary Frances Baldock, wife of the philatelist W. A. S. Westoby.
