Dimensions: Length: 9 1/4 inches x 7 inches high The Hicks & Meigh ironstone tureens are unusually decorated with the Royal Crown with the Roman numerals "XLI" below on an Imari ground. Mark: Printed in blue with Royal Arms above Stone China. Reference: From the 41st Regiment Military Living Group The original name of the Regiment was "Colonel Edmund Fielding's Regiment of Invalids", raised in 1719 from out-pensioners of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, for garrison duty "at home". On July 1, 1751, the Regiment was numbered 41st and redesignated as The 41st Regiment of Foot (or Invalids), with service confined mainly to the Portsmouth garrison, with detachments at Plymouth and Jersey. An oversized Agatewear ewer or water pitcher, from the ‘Agate’ toiletwares line in the ‘Pompiean’ shape, Copeland and Garrett, Spode - circa 1840. Copeland and Garrett operated from 1833-1847 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Agateware vessels are made up of a white clay stained with metallic oxides to create a swirl of multi-colored clays. A large piece originally paired with a basin, molded with an applied handle, a flat-top crimped upper rim, and a footed base.
