About the Item

Metropolitan Museum Reproduction Rococo-Style Silver plated Candlesticks by Gorham, Based on 1759 Design by Myer Myers. Maker: These candlesticks are marked as a Metropolitan Museum Reproduction by Gorham, which is one of the leading American silver companies. Gorham is well-known for producing both original silver designs and high-quality museum reproductions. Original Silversmith: The original design of these candlesticks is attributed to Myer Myers, a notable New York-based silversmith. Myers was active in the mid-18th century, around 1750–1775. He was one of the most prominent Jewish-American artisans of the Colonial period. Design & Period: The original candlesticks were designed in the Rococo style, which was popular in the mid-1700s. The base features a scalloped or shell-like design, which is typical of the Rococo period's focus on natural, flowing forms. The shaft and top of the candlestick are also finely detailed, with a graceful and slightly fluted shape, showing the refinement and craftsmanship of Myers' original design. Date of Reproduction: While the original candlesticks were created around 1759, the reproduction was likely made in the mid-20th century by Gorham in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The reproduction faithfully captures the essence of 18th-century silverwork. Significance: These candlesticks are part of a limited series of museum reproductions, making them collectible items that reflect the historical importance of Myer Myers' work and early American silver. Dimensions - Diameter x height: 13.9 cm x 26 cm Weight: 3025 grams in total. Condition: The Candlesticks are pre - owned, minor signs of usage, excellent condition overall.
