Sterling Silver Tableware

A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver three-piece tea set in the Queen Anne style; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver three-piece tea service consists of a teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug / creamer. Each piece has a plain circular compressed form onto a plain circular collet foot. The lower portion of each item is embellished with embossed fluted decoration in the Queen Anne style. The surface of the upper portion of each piece is plain with an impressive applied gadroon decorated border to the waisted flared rim. The teapot is fitted with a flush hinged domed hallmarked cover, which also features fluted decoration; the flush hinge indicates the Fine quality of this service. The cover is surmounted by the original carved circular fluted painted wood and sterling silver finial, securing to the interior with a wing nut. This fine antique teapot is fitted with a swan necked spout ornamented with an impressive embossed singular leaf design to the underside. The teapot retains the original C-shape carved painted wood handle with a plain scrolling thumbpiece. The cream jug and sugar bowl have plain ribbed angular sterling silver handles. Tiffany & Co. is one of the most prominent purveyors of luxury goods in the United States, and has long been an important arbiter of style in the design of diamond engagement rings. A young Franklin Delano Roosevelt proposed to his future wife, Eleanor, with a Tiffany ring in 1904. Vanderbilt's, Whitney's, Astor's and members of the Russian imperial family all wore Tiffany & Co. jewels. And Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis preferred Tiffany china for state dinners at the White House. Although synonymous with luxury today, the firm started out rather modestly. Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young founded it in Connecticut as "a stationery and fancy goods emporium" in 1837, at a time when European imports still dominated the nascent American luxury market. In 1853, Charles Tiffany who in 1845 had launched the company's famed catalog, the Blue Book, and with it, the firm's signature robin's-egg blue, which he chose for the cover shifted the focus to fine jewelry. In 1868, Tiffany & Co. gained international recognition when it became the first U.S. firm to win an award for excellence in silverware at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver caddy spoon made by Henry George Murphy; an addition to our teaware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver caddy spoon has a plain rounded bowl. The surface of the bowl and upper portion of the handle have a planished finish. The handle is embellished with a cast and applied panel depicting a rose bush with a paralleling rope twist decorated border. The handle terminal is further ornamented with a scalloped border. This impressive antique 1920s silver caddy spoon was crafted by the renowned silversmith Henry George Murphy; the full hallmarks incorporate Murphy's Falcon Studio mark. Condition This antique 1920s silver caddy spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast and applied decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the bowl are all very clear.
